After the last LAN it got me thinking if people still want to continue with the communal food/drink thing resulting in frito pies. So I put up a poll to get everyone’s opinion. If we continue I may have to switch to a model where everyone gives me their share of the cost and I get all of the ingredients so I know how much to get and people don’t wind up having to pay extra unless they want to.
So which would you rather have:
Or do your own thing…
Communal food and drink or buy your own?
- Communal (frito pies, sampling of drinks, grilled stuff) (88%, 7 Votes)
- Buy your own (13%, 1 Votes)
Total Voters: 8
Edit: Made an edit because I was told it was unclear that we would be changing to a new pay share contribution model if we continue with communal food. I will likely change to a similar model even if people decide to bring their own stuff but for a smaller amount as I have wound up out of a considerable amount of money most lans. I recommend getting setup with Dwolla as its the easiest and only free way to transfer money electronically that I know of. I will make everything transparent so everyone knows where the costs are coming from and how they are shared.
If you would like to change your votes please let me know.

I have mixed feelings. I know some are tired of frito pies, or may not be into whatever meal we are doing at that time. At Aaron’s we mostly BBQ and did a bring your own meat. That worked out pretty good. But sometimes someone would bring everything(like I did a big batch of adobo). But with that, I’m fairly flexable. Giving Hayden cash was less work for me.. even though I ended up bringing some booze to share anyway. 🙂
Also wanted to add, I see it this way. Hayden hosts these LANs, we use his power, water, and other resources. Least we could do is bring extra food or donate a little. $10 is not really a big deal. As far as LANs go, this is by far the BEST location we have ever had. Only other one that came close was Marks parent’s garage… or maybe my shed, but that’s anther story. 🙂
